Job summary

Penn E&R, Inc. is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Staff Engineer. Based in Pittsburgh, PA or Doylestown, PA with hybrid flexibility, you will perform a wide range of geotechnical tasks across market sectors, including field-based and office assignments.

The role requires a BS in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, EIT, 2–3 years of experience, and proficiency with PLAXIS/SLIDE-like tools. Travel and physical work are expected as needed.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Completion of coursework in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, subsurface investigation methods.
  • 2–3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Ability to move up to 60 pounds; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Support geotechnical investigation programs including planning, permitting, subcontractor coordination, implementation, field data collection, and oversight, data reporting.
  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and design calculations for foundations, slope stability, settlements, excavation support systems, retaining walls.
  • Perform geologic and seismic hazard evaluations.
  • Write technical reports and documents explaining analyses, designs, and recommendations.
  • Assist with construction drawings and specifications for geotechnical infrastructure.
  • Work as integral member of the engineering team on multi-discipline projects.

  • Write technical reports and other documents explaining the rationale for pertinent analyses, designs, and recommendations.
  • Assist with the preparation of construction drawings, and specifications for geotechnical infrastructure.
  • Work as integral member of the engineering team on complex, multi-discipline projects.
Qualifications include:
  • BS in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • Completion of relevant coursework in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, subsurface investigation methods.

  • Competence in geotechnical analysis software such as SLIDE, SETTLE3, RSPIile, LPILE, SEEP/W etc.
  • Ability to move up to 60 pounds.
  • A valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and technical communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in the field and travel for short-term/long-term assignments.
