Job summary

Penn E&R is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Staff Engineer based in Pittsburgh, PA or Doylestown, PA with hybrid office/field responsibilities. You will support investigations, analyses, and reporting across market sectors while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver geotechnical solutions.

The role requires a BS in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (MS preferred), EIT certification, 2–3 years of experience, and willingness to travel for field assignments.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• Completion of geotechnical coursework in soil and rock mechanics.
• 2-3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• Move up to 60 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Willingness to travel for field assignments.

Responsibilities

• Support geotechnical investigation programs from planning through data reporting.
• Perform analyses and design calculations for foundations, slopes, settlements, and retaining structures.
• Perform geologic and seismic hazard evaluations.
• Write technical reports detailing analyses, designs, and recommendations.
• Assist with construction drawings and specifications for geotechnical infrastructure.
• Collaborate with the engineering team on multi-discipline projects.

Penn E&R is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Staff Engineer . While you will be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA or Doylestown, PA office, we offer hybrid flexibility. You will have the opportunity to perform a wide range of tasks across all of Penn E&R's market sectors and be expected to perform both office-based and field-based assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support geotechnical investigation programs including planning, permitting, subcontractor coordination, implementation, field data collection, and oversight, data reporting.
• Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and design calculations for foundations, soil/rock slope stability, settlements, temporary excavation support systems, retaining walls etc.
• Perform geologic and seismic hazard evaluations.
• Write technical reports and other documents explaining the rationale for pertinent analyses, designs, and recommendations.
• Assist with the preparation of construction drawings, and specifications for geotechnical infrastructure.
• Work as integral member of the engineering team on complex, multi-discipline projects.

Qualifications include:

• BS in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• Completion of relevant coursework in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, subsurface investigation methods.
• 2-3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
• Competence in geotechnical analysis software such as SLIDE, SETTLE3, RSPIile, LPILE, SEEP/W etc.
• Ability to move up to 60 pounds.
• A valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities.
• Strong analytical and technical communication skills.
• Willingness to work in the field and travel for short-term/long-term assignments.
