Job summary

Bunnell-Lammons Engineering seeks a Department Manager for Geotechnical Services in the Charlotte metro area. You will build and lead BLE’s geotechnical practice, oversee staff, projects, budgeting, and client relations.

This senior role offers growth toward ownership within an employee-owned firm, with heavy emphasis on technical leadership, proposal development, and field program oversight.

Regular in-person work at BLE facilities with opportunities to shape a growing Southeast practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; PE license required.
• Typically 8+ years in geotechnical/geostructural engineering with PM experience.
• Experience in subsurface exploration, geotechnical analysis, design, and construction support.
• Knowledge of Charlotte geology preferred.
• BLE Senior Professional Program participation required to qualify as final reviewer.
• Experience with budgets, schedules, staffing, and contracts.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Existing relationships in Charlotte area desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain corporate and professional standards, ethics, and regulatory compliance throughout the department.
• Establish departmental priorities, workflows, and best practices that promote quality, consistency, accountability, efficiency, and profitability.
• Oversee geotechnical projects from scoping through subsurface exploration, analysis, reporting, and construction support, ensuring appropriate staffing, technical approach, schedule, budget, and client communication.
• Plan and coordinate subsurface exploration programs, including drilling, sampling, laboratory testing, field personnel, subcontractors, and schedules.
• Lead QA/QC, review proposals and technical deliverables, and serve as final reviewer where authorized.
• Provide technical leadership during design and construction and ensure clients and project teams receive timely support in resolving complex geotechnical challenges.
