Job summary

S&ME is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer in Indianapolis, Indiana to lead geotechnical investigations from planning through completion, collaborating with project managers, field and laboratory teams, and clients to analyze data and deliver reports for building and infrastructure projects.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, or related engineering field, 4+ years of geotechnical experience, and a PE license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of related geotechnical engineering experience, preferably with project management responsibilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, or related engineering field is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate geotechnical investigations by coordinating subsurface explorations, field observations, and laboratory testing to meet project scope, schedule, and budget.
• Analyze soil, rock, and groundwater data to develop practical geotechnical recommendations for foundations, earthwork, pavements, and site development.
• Prepare geotechnical engineering reports, calculations, and design recommendations that clearly communicate findings, risks, and assumptions to clients and project teams.
• Coordinate with project managers, field staff, subcontractors, and clients to address project questions, changing conditions, and technical challenges.
• Mentor junior staff and promote a strong safety, quality, and professional development culture.
