Job summary

Sanbell in Elko, NV seeks a Geotechnical Lab Manager to coordinate laboratory operations and provide field inspection and materials testing coverage. The role splits roughly half laboratory management and half field work on project sites across the region.

You will oversee sample logging, testing, data review, and maintain accreditations while training technicians and keeping organized records. This part-time position may include overtime and travel, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to organize workloads and train laboratory personnel.
• Experience with soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt test methods.
• Must obtain/maintain relevant certifications (ACI/NAQTC/ICC, etc.).
• Strong organization, communication, writing, and computer skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prioritize laboratory workloads so soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt samples are logged, tested, reviewed, and completed within required turnaround times.
• Assign and monitor laboratory work, help train technicians, verify test methods, and review data.
• Support maintenance of accreditations, quality records, proficiency testing, equipment maintenance, and corrective actions.
• Prepare laboratory reports and maintain organized sample records and project files.
• Participate in subsurface explorations and document soil/site conditions.
• Support geotechnical and soils reports by compiling exploration and laboratory data.
• Provide field coverage for earthwork, backfill, roadway, foundations, concrete, asphalt, and other testing or inspections.
• Review plans and communicate testing results, maintain daily reports and photographs, coordinate with contractors and project staff.
• Operate and care for laboratory/field equipment, follow procedures, maintain a clean lab.
• Assist with project coordination, scheduling, billing backup, client service, and other department needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
