Job summary

Westwood Professional Services is seeking a Geotechnical Intern to join our team supporting subsurface investigations and foundation design for renewable energy projects. You will work with Senior Engineers on soil logging, lab testing, and preparation of geotechnical reports and recommendations.

The role involves learning industry standards (ASTM, ASCE, IBC), site visits, and collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams on wind, solar, and BESS foundations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergrad engineering program, preferably Civil with geotechnical emphasis.
• Willingness to learn and interact professionally with clients and team members.
• Comfort with field/work outdoors at active drilling sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist field subsurface investigations: soil boring logging, CPT, test pit observation.
• Support lab soil testing under engineer guidance (classification, moisture, strength).
• Help develop foundation design recommendations for wind/solar/BESS foundations using LPILE/Settle3.
