Westwood Professional Services in Appleton, WI is seeking a Geotechnical Intern to support subsurface investigation and geotechnical analyses for public infrastructure projects. You will assist with boring logs, laboratory testing, and geotechnical report preparation, building foundational skills in soil classification and field data collection.

The role involves collaboration with the team, client interaction, and travel to project sites to observe drilling operations and gather data.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program (Civil, Survey, Engineering Tech, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering or related field).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for professional client interactions.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform field work at active drilling and construction sites.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsabilités

• Assist subsurface exploration programs, including logging soil borings, test pits, and monitoring well installations.
• Perform geotechnical laboratory testing on soil and rock samples (classification, moisture, Atterberg limits, compaction).
• Support geotechnical report preparation with boring logs, data summaries, and recommendations.
• Help understand client interests and address concerns in project work.
• Collaborate with team members across public infrastructure projects to ensure progress.
• Travel to project sites to observe drilling operations, collect field data, and interface with clients/contractors.
