Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to perform field and laboratory testing in support of geotechnical and construction materials projects. The role is field-based with subsurface exploration, construction observation, and material testing under project managers and senior staff.

Responsibilities include boring layouts, soil observations, DCP testing, logging, data reduction, and coordination with contractors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain one certification within 90 days; basic certifications within 270 days including Radiation Safety, Soils I, and Concrete I.

Responsibilities

• Performs layout of borings and test pits using surveying techniques and GPS.
• Observes and classifies soils and subsurface conditions.
• Performs hand auger borings, DCP testing, and other field investigations.
• Logs soil samples and documents field observations.
• Assists with data reduction and field documentation.
• Performs field testing, sampling, and inspection of construction materials (soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, masonry, structural steel).
• Assists with laboratory testing and sample classification.
• Communicates daily with contractors, PMs, and team about site conditions and testing.
• Supports preparation of reports, calculations, and documentation.
• Maintains field equipment and proper documentation of test results.
