Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to perform field and laboratory testing in support of geotechnical and construction materials projects under the direction of project managers and senior staff. The role is primarily field-based, involving subsurface exploration, construction observation, and material testing activities.

Hands-on skill development through certifications is emphasized while maintaining a positive customer-service attitude.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of Radiation Safety, Soils I, and Concrete I within 270 days of employment.
• Valid driver’s license if driving for ECS.
• Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret construction plans.
• Willingness to work in field conditions, including varying weather and site environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform layout of borings and test pits using surveying techniques and GPS.
• Observe and classify soils, test pits, and subsurface conditions.
• Perform field testing (DCP, hand auger borings) and other field investigations.
• Log soil samples and document field observations.
• Assist with data reduction and preparation of field/project documentation.
• Communicate site conditions daily with contractors, PMs, and team members.
• Support preparation of reports, calculations, and documentation.
• Maintain field equipment and documentation of test results.
