Job summary

NEWRANGE COPPER NICKEL LLC is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support field programs for rock storage facilities and open pit mining projects. The role focuses on geotechnical data collection, analysis, and design integration, with responsibilities spanning from field oversight to technical advisory across project stages.

The candidate will contribute to rock slope stability, monitoring systems, and tailings geotechnical design, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to manage risks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the mining and/or consulting industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active progress toward licensure, through a recognized professional engineering organization.
  • Significant experience in rock storage facilities design.
  • Experience in rock mechanics design for open pit mining (slope stability), geotechnical monitoring systems, and tailings geotechnical design considered an asset.
  • Work experience in a setting similar to Northern Minnesota considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, oversight, and execution of geotechnical field programs supporting rock storage facilities, mine pits, and groundwater containment system design.
  • Support and contribute to scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, and other mining project study phases.
  • Integrate rock slope stability design, rock storage management concepts, and surface hydrology considerations into project design.
  • Assess, identify, and communicate geotechnical risks to project leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage project-related budgets and assist in geotechnical consulting contracts, including scope development and performance oversight.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.
