Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates (HCEA) is a multi-disciplinary ENR Top 500 engineering firm with 20 offices. This entry-level professional role supports Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing/Inspection by performing field explorations, in-situ testing, lab work, and reporting under supervision of Professional Engineers.

Internship experience counts toward experience level. Candidate will work in both field and office settings, with opportunities to advance to Project Engineer I

Qualifications

• Requires B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience; internships count.
• EIT certification required; ability to read plans and specs.

Responsibilities

• Support geotechnical and CMT projects for public/private clients.
• Conduct test boring and pit observations during subsurface explorations.
• Analyze geotechnical field and laboratory data and prepare reports.
• Classify soils and evaluate subsurface conditions per standards.
• Review CMT field reports in a PM role for accuracy.
• Prepare geotechnical calculations and analyses.
• Assist in evaluating subsurface conditions and form recommendations.
• Support project managers and engineers in planning and execution.
• Occasionally perform on-site testing and inspections of soils and concrete.
