Job summary

S&ME, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer in Charlotte, NC to support a variety of civil, geotechnical, and environmental projects.

You will gain real-world experience through field investigations and office analysis, working with licensed professionals and contributing to reporting and regulatory compliance. You will participate in fieldwork, data analysis, and documentation, with growth opportunities and a path toward PE licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• EIT certification with the desire to pursue PE licensure in the future.
• Interest in geotechnical field and analytical work.
• Basic technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fieldwork including soil borings, drilling oversight, monitoring well installation, soil and rock classification, in-situ testing, and collection of soil, groundwater, and gas samples at project sites.
• Analyze subsurface conditions, support laboratory testing programs, interpret geological and geotechnical data, and assist with engineering evaluations.
• Prepare data tables, figures, and graphical presentations; compare results to state and federal standards; assist in writing technical reports.
• Perform construction and environmental inspections, document site conditions, ensure compliance with plans and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with drilling teams, laboratories, vendors, and project staff, and communicate effectively with clients.
