Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. is recruiting a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead a growing practice in North Carolina. You’ll oversee subsurface investigations, client relations, and mentoring, shaping the technical direction and growth of the geotechnical group.
You’ll meld hands-on engineering with leadership, managing budgets, schedules, and proposals while building a strong service line and trusted client partnerships across projects in the region.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer who wants more than another project-management position.
We're looking for a North Carolina PE who can lead technically, develop client relationships, mentor engineers, and help build a growing Geotechnical Services practice from the ground up.
You'll have a seat at the table, direct access to company leadership, and the opportunity to put your fingerprints on how the department operates and grows.
You'll combine hands-on geotechnical engineering with leadership and client management, including:
Lead subsurface investigations, soil borings, test pits, and groundwater evaluations
Perform bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, foundation, pavement, and retaining structure analyses
Develop foundation and site-development recommendations
Prepare and review geotechnical reports and technical documentation
Coordinate drilling subcontractors, field technicians, and testing activities
Manage projects from initial proposal through final delivery
Serve as a trusted technical contact for clients
Establish technical standards, SOPs, and QA/QC procedures
Mentor junior engineers and field personnel
Assist with staffing and equipment planning as the department expands
Support proposals, presentations, and business development
Work alongside environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, and permitting professionals
You're not stepping into a position where everything has already been decided.
You'll help determine how the geotechnical group operates, how projects are executed, how people are developed, and how the practice grows.
For an engineer with an entrepreneurial side, this is a chance to build a service line without taking on the risk of starting your own company.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license
7+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
Strong background in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and subsurface investigations
Experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, and clients
Ability to prepare and review professional engineering reports
Strong communication and technical writing skills
Leadership ability and an interest in mentoring others
A business-minded approach to developing client relationships and growing a practice
A Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus.
This opportunity offers the combination that's difficult to find at a large engineering firm:
Autonomy + technical leadership + growth potential.
You'll work within an established multidisciplinary environmental and engineering organization while having the opportunity to help create and grow an important new service line.
The package includes:
If you're an experienced geotechnical engineer who has spent years managing projects and you're ready to start building a practice, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
