Job summary

Braun Intertec seeks a geotechnical drilling assistant to join our Dallas, TX or Tyler, TX office. The Drilling Assistant supports the Crew Chief in drilling operations and subsurface investigations, collecting soil, rock, groundwater samples, and logging field data under varied conditions.

Candidates should be able to lift 50 lbs regularly, work outdoors in all weather, travel up to 100%, and pursue a CDL if possible.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
  • Prior geotechnical drilling experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Able to travel up to 100% with short notice.
  • Ability to operate outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Crew Chief in drilling operations and fieldwork.
  • Collect field samples and data; log information for reports.
  • Return samples and data organized to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain tooling, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues as needed.
  • Use PPE and follow safe work practices.
  • Complete required paperwork and training timely.
  • Operate vehicles safely and maintain documentation.

Job description

Braun Intertec is seeking a geotechnical drilling assistant to join our Dallas, TX or Tyler, TX office. The Drilling Assistant has primary responsibility for performing subsurface investigations for geotechnical and environmental purposes. A subsurface investigation can involve collecting soil, rock, groundwater samples, and logging the field data. These investigations take place over a wide variety of terrain, conditions, and weather. The Drilling Assistant will assist the Crew Chief in all aspects of the drilling operation and is expected to eventually gain the experience necessary to perform all the duties of a Crew Chief.

Responsibilities
  • ResponsibilitiesAssists the Crew Chief in all aspects of drilling operation, while gaining the experience necessary to work with minimal direction
  • Assists in the collection of field samples and data.
  • Returns field samples and data, organized and completed to the Project Manager.
  • Responsible for maintaining tooling, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Assists the Crew Chief with trouble shooting mechanical problems and perform the required repairs.
  • Use required and approved personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing all functions.
  • Responsible for promoting, communicating, and adhering to safe work practices
  • Responsible for completing all required paperwork and training in a timely manner
  • Operate Vehicles in a safe and lawful manner.
  • Maintain necessary compliance documentation relating to the operation of commercial motor vehicles
Required Experience and Qualifications

Prior geotechnical drilling experience is preferred, but not requiredStrong technical and mechanical aptitudeAbility to diagnose mechanical problems and perform necessary repairs.Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, customers, and supervisors, while fostering a collaborative and engaging work environmentstrong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-taskAbility to problem solve and work in a dynamic work environment with ambiguity and changing priorities.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.Dependable, the ability to maintain reliable attendance and work a full-time schedule which sometimes includes weekend and night workMust be available for travel up to 100%, often on short noticeAbility to work outdoors, in a field / construction work setting, in all types of weather conditions and terrainHigh School Diploma or equivalent is preferredAbility to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis, 75lbs occasionallyA valid drivers license and acceptable driving recordThe ability to obtain a CDL license within 90 days is preferredAbility to pass a driving / road testAbility to pass a pre employment drug screen, criminal background check and motor vehicle record check#LI-PD1
