Job description

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, multidisciplinary geotechnical and environmental engineering consulting firm with a strong reputation and decades of experience supporting infrastructure and development projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The firm is seeking a technically knowledgeable and personable professional with a background in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, geology, or environmental consulting who is interested in building a career focused on business development and client relationships.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or geologist who enjoys the technical side of consulting but also has strong communication skills, enjoys meeting people, and wants to become more involved in developing business opportunities.

You do not need to be an established business development professional. Our client is particularly interested in someone with a solid technical foundation, an outgoing personality, and a genuine interest in learning how to build and maintain long-term client relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the firm's technical services, capabilities, project experience, and target markets.
  • Work closely with engineering professionals and project managers to identify new business opportunities and strengthen existing client relationships.
  • Build relationships with engineering firms, developers, contractors, public agencies, and other potential clients.
  • Participate in client meetings, industry conferences, networking events, and professional association activities.
  • Identify and follow up on prospective projects, client needs, and market opportunities.
  • Assist with preparing proposals, qualifications packages, presentations, and other business development materials.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to understand project requirements and communicate the firm's capabilities to prospective clients.
  • Support business development initiatives across transportation, aviation, water and wastewater, civil infrastructure, dams, commercial development, and government projects.
  • Help expand the firm's presence throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and into new markets.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in engineering or environmental consulting.
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering, subsurface investigations, geology, environmental services, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an interest in developing professional relationships.
  • Ability to understand technical concepts and communicate them effectively to clients and other industry professionals.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable taking initiative.
  • Interest in networking, business development, and expanding professional relationships.
  • Willingness to attend industry events, meet prospective clients, and travel regionally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience interacting directly with clients, contractors, consultants, or public agencies.
  • Exposure to proposal preparation, project pursuits, client presentations, or business development activities.
  • Experience working with geotechnical or environmental engineering consulting firms.
  • Existing professional relationships within the Mid-Atlantic engineering and construction industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license is a plus, but not required.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Join an established and respected engineering consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and development projects.
  • Transition from a primarily technical role into a position that combines engineering knowledge, client interaction, and business development.
  • Work directly with experienced engineering professionals and firm leadership.
  • Help develop new client relationships and contribute to the firm's continued growth.
  • Gain exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and market sectors.
  • Enjoy a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional development and long-term career growth.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.
Who Would Be a Good Fit?

This opportunity may be particularly appealing to a Geotechnical Engineer, Civil Project Engineer, Project Geologist, Environmental Engineer, or Project Manager who enjoys interacting with clients and is interested in moving toward a more relationship-driven role.

Our client values technical credibility, communication skills, initiative, and the ability to build trust.
