Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer in Charlotte, NC to lead the geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice. You will manage challenging projects across landfills, mines, dams, and water containment systems while supporting business development and client management.

The role requires 10+ years in consulting, PE licensure, and strong leadership. Travel to client sites and fieldwork are expected as part of project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.
  • Professional PE licensure is required.
  • At least 10 years of directly relevant consulting experience.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering software is required.
  • Ability to travel to client facilities as needed.
  • HAZWOPER training (40-hr) is preferred.
  • Advanced degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Civil design, landfill design, vapor mitigation design, and site layout.
  • Geotechnical analyses: slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, seepage.
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems.
  • Project and staff management including mentoring.
  • Client relationship management to drive repeat business.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, and permit applications.
  • Fieldwork and site investigations as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Civil design, landfill design, vapor mitigation design, and site layout.
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, and seepage.
  • Geotechnical and environmental site characterization.
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems.
  • Project/task management and proposal preparation support.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications.
  • Fieldwork associated with design and construction services.
  • Managing multiple projects within the scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management.
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business.
  • Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals.
  • Drive personal, company, or rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., PE). (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software. (required)
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)Fieldwork and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
