Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Geospatial Research Specialist to perform highly advanced research and spatial analyses on Medicaid/CHIP data. You will design studies, clean data, geocode locations, and prepare reports for agency leadership, the Legislature, and external partners.

Responsibilities include developing GIS-based methods, collaborating with analysts, and presenting maps and analyses that inform program decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in epidemiology, statistics, public health, data science or related field.
• Four years’ experience with data acquisition, management, analyses, visualization and presentation of health and human services data or large datasets.
• Four years’ experience in writing queries and using statistical software (e.g. SAS or SPSS).
• Experience with collecting, managing, and analyzing geospatial data.

Responsibilities

• Designs and conducts advanced research and analysis projects for Medicaid, CHIP and other agency programs.
• Develops and maintains information systems to support research; validates data sources and performs data cleaning.
• Leads collaboration with staff and stakeholders to design spatial analyses and reports; presents findings to leadership and lawmakers.
• Performs project management tasks; coordinates meetings, documents data sources and requirements, ensures traceability.
• Develops and maintains automated processes for data acquisition, cleaning, transformation, and querying.
