Monroe Community College seeks a GIS Lab Support Specialist to maintain the Geospatial lab's equipment and software, assist students with GIS projects, and troubleshoot technical issues. The role includes outreach to local organizations, assisting with purchasing for the GIST lab, and delivering in-person and remote tutoring during Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.

The position is grant-funded and temporary, with an emphasis on collaboration, training, and equity in education, supporting MCC's Mapping

Formación

• Earned a bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field.
• Advanced knowledge in geospatial technology (web mapping, Python, remote sensing, spatial analysis, data management).
• Proficient with ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.

Responsabilidades

• Work one-on-one with students to support GIS labs and projects.
• Provide geospatial support and troubleshoot where students are having difficulty with their lab/project.
• Mentor students with the possibilities career-wise in GIS and Geography.
• Outreach to one local organization per semester such as RMSC, Jumpstart, local high schools.
• Support GIS software maintenance
• Update World Map Gallery across campus
• Support purchasing of GIS software and equipment
• Support purchasing items for the new GIST Computer lab such as framed maps
• Engage with MCC's Mapping Club
• Maintain the GIST computer lab itself (ex., bulletin boards, displays, keeping things tidy, etc.)
• Each semester, train small groups of faculty/staff (3-5 people) on the basics of GIS with short 1-2 hour trainings.
• Manage MCC GIST student Esri usernames and passwords
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Proofreading and testing new lab exercises, and providing feedback
• Report to Geography/GIST faculty
• Adheres to the College Code of Conduct.
