Job summary

WSP USA invites students to join our Earth & Environment team as a Geology Intern – Summer 2027, working in Oakland, CA or Rancho Cordova, CA. This 12-week internship offers hands-on experience on real projects alongside senior staff.

As a temporary intern, you will develop geology and environmental science skills, participate in field work, data analysis, and reporting, and gain mentorship through our Developing Professionals Network. Start date May 17, 2027, with flexibility on exact date.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Geology or Environmental Science undergraduate program, graduating Aug 2027 or later.
• 18+ years old and authorized to work in the US.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to work with engineering teams.
• Able to pass safety, drug/alcohol, and HAZWOPER requirements.
• Authorized to work in the United States at internship start.

• Collect and maintain project documentation and create drawings/maps.

Our Earth & Environment team is seeking a Full-Time Geology Intern – Summer 2027 to work out of our Oakland, CA or Rancho Cordova, CA office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate program.

This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 17th, 2027. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Your Impact

• Support a variety of environmental tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Geology and/or Environmental Science.
• Assist with project research, field work, data analysis, and reporting.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Assist in preparing project drawings and maps.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
• Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Minimum Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geology, Environmental Science, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• 18 years or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to complete projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
• Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geology or Environmental Science, or related, Master’s or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Experience using excel.
• Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $22.60 - $30.53
