Geologic Data & Petra Database Management
- Ownership of the firm's Petra geologic database — maintenance, organization, and ongoing cleanup of existing databases for optimal functionality and performance
- Management of large subsurface and land datasets in a clean, organized, and consistent manner
- Collect, organize, and quality-control geologic data from client datasets, internal archives, public sources, and industry publications
- Map generation and final editing of published geologic materials and post finished deliverables to virtual data rooms.
GIS Mapping & Spatial Analysis
- Map generation and production of polished exhibits for firm materials
- Clean, join, validate, and reconcile spatial and tabular data; convert spreadsheet data into spatial features and validate client/third-party shapefiles against information provided in the deal process.
- Manipulate shapefiles (edit, query, add/delete features and fields, populate attributes) and manage attribute tables in Excel; standardize and convert projections (e.g., to NAD27) across differing formats and software.
- Run deal-relevant spatial analyses — acreage positions, well and lease inventory, unit configurations, well spacing, and offset-operator positioning.
- Build and maintain internal GIS standards, templates, and layer/version conventions to keep deliverables consistent across the firm.
- Work directly with geologists, engineers, and financial professionals on highly confidential evaluations.
- Manage multiple concurrent deals and map projects simultaneously, delivering ahead of deadlines.
- Maintain strict quality control and technical accuracy across all geologic and geospatial materials.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- 3+ years of Petra experience — including database ownership / project-management responsibilities.
- 3+ years of GIS experience — QGIS / ArcGIS / ArcGIS Pro
- Neat and organizationally minded, with the discipline to manage and clean large datasets and keep them optimally structured.
- Working knowledge of oil & gas terminology and upstream asset structures.
- A strong eye for map aesthetics — color, line weight, and symbology — to make key features stand out and fade background detail, with the creativity to make a map read clearly.
- Familiarity with commercial industry databases (e.g., Enverus, S&P Global / IHS) and public / regulatory sources (e.g., the Texas Railroad Commission).
- Foundation-to-intermediate understanding of legal land-grid descriptions, or a clear willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with the graphic-design sense to construct clean presentation exhibits.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines in a professional manner.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with U.S. Lower 48 basin geology and land descriptions, sufficient to place data in deal context.

- Scripting and workflow automation (e.g., Python, arcpy /geopandas) to streamline repeatable GIS tasks
- Prior A&D or energy investment banking experience.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree — geology / geoscience, GIS / geography, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience; upstream oil & gas focus strongly preferred.
- Relevant A&D experience preferred but not required.
