Job summary

A local higher education institution is seeking qualified candidates for the Geography Adjunct Faculty position. This role includes preparing and teaching college-level Geography courses, maintaining clear communication with students, and effectively delivering engaging instruction. Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Geography and demonstrate strong teaching skills. This position is contracted on a quarterly basis with an emphasis on collaborative teamwork and dedication to diversity and inclusivity.

Job description

Geography Adjunct Faculty

Salary: $1,000 per credit*

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Reports to: Interim Dean of STEM

*This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future vacancies. Individuals will be contacted as vacancies occur.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare and teach developmental and/or college-level Geography course(s)
  • Provide high quality, enthusiastic instruction including related preparation and grading
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms and records as required
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate evening instruction
  • May include teaching at the Bremerton, Poulsbo, and Shelton Campuses
  • Maintain clear and punctual communication with students, faculty, and staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geography required
  • Related Master’s degree with substantial graduate-level Geography coursework may be considered
  • Computer skills including Microsoft applications

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful experience teaching Geography at a College or University
  • Experience with Learning Management System software such as Canvas

Terms of Employment

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment. Final salary contract will be determined based on educational qualifications and applicable credits. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience.

Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Applying does not guarantee that a position will be available or offered. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire; adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible.

Conditions of Employment

Prior to new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining suitability. Candidates must complete a Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form as required by HB 2327. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of the campus at the time of hiring. Frequent travel to Olympic College campuses or other sites may occur.
