Job summary

YMCA of Southwest Florida is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to deliver safe, effective group fitness classes under supervision. You will manage class setup, ensure participant safety, and maintain equipment standards while following the facility's policies and schedules.

The role requires CPR/First Aid/AED, appropriate fitness certification, and annual safety trainings. Background checks are required; experience in fitness is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must complete State of Florida Background Check requirements and comply with the Association’s policies on background screening.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Refrain from diagnosing injuries or giving medical advice or endorsing health products.
• Self-starter with high energy and a positive attitude.
• Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
• Participate in YMCA-sponsored events when possible.
• Complete required background screening through Florida Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, effective group exercise classes in line with class formats.
• Arrive on time and prepare the facility; manage set up and takedown efficiently.
• Ensure participants’ safety and appropriate footwear and equipment use.
• Know participants, their health concerns, and physical limitations; monitor all participants.
• Submit substitute instructors if unavailable and inform supervisor promptly.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings and follow time-keeping procedures.
• Uphold safety protocols and cleaning procedures throughout the day.
• Support program objectives and assist with assigned duties as needed.
