Job summary

Freenome is seeking a Senior Research Associate to advance genomic assay technologies within the Genomic Early Development team. You will develop NGS-based workflows and collaborate with Scientists, Automation Engineers, and Computational Biologists to improve throughput in a regulated high-throughput environment.

This onsite role reports to the Senior Manager and is based in Brisbane, California. You will contribute to transferring methods to Operations, writing study protocols, and ensuring

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field with at least 4 years of experience in life sciences or Master’s in molecular biology or related field.
• Hands-on experience in NGS-based assay development including extraction, library preparation, target capture, and sequencing.
• Familiarity with molecular biology, genomics, NGS, assay development, sample preparation, reagent handling, or related lab workflows.

Responsibilities

• Apply hands-on knowledge of molecular biology and NGS to develop and optimize workflows.
• Design and perform experiments to develop, optimize, and characterize NGS workflow including DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, target capture, and sequencing.
• Operate and maintain NGS instruments such as automated liquid handlers, PCR instruments, and sequencers.
• Conduct reagent testing and develop QC methods.
• Troubleshoot issues and drive process improvements for the analytical workflow.
• Collaborate with research, computational scientists, and automation engineers to transfer research prototype assays to Development.
• Support transfer of methods to Operations and assist in documentation and cGLP/cGDP practices.
