Qualifications

• Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in a relevant biological or laboratory science.
• Cytogeneticist certification/qualification requires either fellowship with emphasis in clinical cytogenetics; or four years of training/experience in human medical genetics or pathology, with at least two years in clinical cytogenetics.

Responsibilities

• Oversees analytical performance of all tests in the laboratory and directs staff in resolving test procedure problems.
• Oversees external laboratory services for tests not carried out in the laboratory.
• Communicates with staff on methodology, test selection, and significance of results.
• Introduces new tests or changes in tests or interpretive protocols; supports research projects.
• Works with Medical Director and Laboratory Manager to set long-range goals and ensure cost-effective operations.
• Directs evaluation of new/revised methods or instruments and ensures regulatory compliance.

Education

Doctoral degree in a relevant biological or laboratory science (biochemistry, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology)
