Job summary

Rush University Medical Center seeks a Laboratory Manager for the Infectious Diseases research division. You will supervise day-to-day wet lab activities, including cultivation and molecular work, while ensuring quality, safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires strong leadership, at least five years in lab management, and collaboration with nursing and physician leaders to support Point of Care testing and system-wide operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in MLS or equivalent BS in Biology or healthcare field is required.
  • At least five years experience in a laboratory management or supervisory role, or another healthcare setting.
  • For Point of Care testing, two years of leadership overseeing testing outside the lab with nursing/physician leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the technical, financial, regulatory and administrative operations of the laboratory.
  • Provides leadership to ensure excellent customer service and coordinated lab activities.
  • Maintains compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manages budgets, capital planning and cost controls for the laboratory.
  • Collaborates with AVP, Quality Director and department leadership on strategic goals.
  • Mentors staff, coordinates training and oversees workflow across sections.
