Job summary

CRITFC Genetics Laboratory Technician is assigned to the Hagerman Fish Culture Experiment Station in Hagerman, ID. The role supports conservation genetics research under the Lead Geneticist and Lab Managers, collaborating with CRITFC geneticists and department staff in Portland, OR.

The position emphasizes empirical genetics/genomics work related to steelhead and other Columbia River fishes, with in-person duties in Hagerman, Idaho.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science field, or an associate’s degree with 1 year of experience, or 3 years in a related role.
• Proficiency with Excel and Word.
• Willingness to learn laboratory techniques and protocols.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks with concentration.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Physical ability to stand 4–6 hours/day and lift up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sampling materials for collecting fish tissue samples in the field.
• Extract DNA from fish tissues.
• Prepare DNA libraries for next-generation sequencing (GT-seq, whole genome).
• Analyze genetic markers on specialized laboratory equipment.
• Data entry into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Progeny database.
• Complete QA/QC protocols.
• Communicate effectively with project leaders and team members.
• Participate in inter-agency workgroups, as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned and appropriate to CRITFC goals.
