Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Collect biological data, maintain accurate records, and perform analysis.
  • Assist with fin clips, PIT tagging, harvesting, grading, and sorting.
  • Must be willing to work weekends on a rotational basis.

Fish Hatchery and Broodstock Technician

SalmoGen Company, Inc. is an American growth company in Atlantic salmon breeding and genetics. We are expanding our team as we scale operations to increase supply of high-performance eggs. The Fish Hatchery and Broodstock Technician supports the daily operation of the breeding program at The Center of Cooperative Aquaculture Research (CCAR). This position works collaboratively with the management team and other onsite staff to carry out daily fish husbandry duties and participate in activities related to broodstock program management, spawning, and egg processing. Salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge of hatchery and broodstock work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with handling and movement of fish across the full life cycle.
  • Daily duties include water quality testing, feed management, and RAS system monitoring/maintenance.
  • Monitor fish health, follow disease prevention protocols, and help maintain a clean environment.
  • Collect biological data, maintain accurate records, and perform analysis.
  • Assist with fin clips, PIT tagging, harvesting, grading, and sorting.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing to work weekends on a rotational basis.

Background/Experience

  • Previous experience working with culture of salmonid species including handling large broodstock, spawning, egg incubation, fry husbandry and understanding the operation and principles of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
  • Experience operating feeders, graders, lighting systems, and other hatchery systems.
  • Having experience or skills in plumbing or installation of mechanical equipment would be of benefit and will be considered.
  • Proven ability to perform physically demanding work in cold, wet environment both indoors and outdoors. Working early mornings and long days particularly during spawning season.
