Job summary

The University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake in Seattle seeks a Genetics Counselor 2 to compile, evaluate, and document family histories and genetic test results, and to provide pre- and post-test genetic counseling to patients and families.

Under supervision, you will counsel clients with complex genetics problems, develop educational programs for staff and students, and provide general consultation to other health care providers.

Qualifications

• One or more years of professional genetic counseling experience.
• Master's degree in genetics counseling from an accredited program or equivalent education/experience.
• WA state DOH license for Genetic Counselor and board certification by a national board.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support for hereditary cancer visits scheduled with the physician clinical geneticist.
• Coordinate ordering specialized genetic tests; assist with insurance preauthorization; identify additional family members to be tested.
• Assist medical geneticist in determining patient care needs and discuss prognosis with the team.
• Educate patients regarding risks and test results; provide grief and crisis counseling as needed.
• Work in an interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient services with other health care providers and agencies.
