Job summary

UW Medical Center-Montlake, Adult Genetics Department, seeks a Genetics Counselor 2 to join our team in Seattle. You will compile family histories, evaluate genetic test results, and provide pre- and post-test counseling to patients and families.

Under supervision, you will assess complex genetics cases, participate in educational programs for staff and students, coordinate testing and referrals, and support patients with prognosis and management discussions. WA license required.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in genetics counseling or related field required.
• WA state DOH license for Genetic Counselor required.
• Certification by a national board for medical genetics personnel as a Genetics Counselor required.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support for hereditary cancer visits with physician geneticist.
• Coordinate ordering of specialized genetic tests and assist with insurance preauthorization.
• Educate patients on risks, options, and test results; discuss prognosis and management.
• Coordinate follow-up patient care in interdisciplinary teams.
• Refer complex cases to medical geneticist and support patient services across providers.

**Job Description**The **UW Medical Center-Montlake - Adult Genetics Department** has an outstanding opportunity for a **Genetics Counselor 2**.**WORK SCHEDULE*** Full-Time / 40 Hours Per Week* Day Shift**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS*** The individual in this position will compile, evaluate, and document the family history and genetic test results, and provide pre and post-test genetic counseling services to patients and/or families.* Under general supervision, assesses and counsels clients with complex genetics problems.* Participate in the development of educational programs; Instruct medical staff, students and others regarding program services. Provides general consultation to other health care staff including community physicians and other primary care providers.* The Genetic Counselor will compile family histories, reviews medical records, genetic test results, and conduct patient education regarding complex genetic disorders.
