Position Summary
The Genetic Counselor Clinical Assistant will be responsible for providing clinical, clerical and administrative support to the genetic counseling team within the department of Clinical Genetics and Genomics. In support of the clinical staff, this individual will interact with patients, clinical providers and other medical professionals, as well as insurance companies and testing laboratories through all aspects of the clinical genetic evaluation, counseling and testing process.
Demonstrate knowledge of medical practice terminology and genetic terminology and concepts; ability to manage databases, perform literature searches and track laboratory results. Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
License/Certification/Registration required? No
Education:
* Bachelor's degree in a biological/genetics/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience (preferred):
* 2 years experience in the healthcare field, administrative experience in clinical genetics preferred.
* Experience with patient/family contact in a medical setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Knowledge of genetics and genetic concepts. Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both over the telephone and in person.
* Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Excellent customer service and problem solving skills.
* Ability to work well both independently, with little supervision, and in a team setting.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.
In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
