Job summary

Generac is seeking a Technical Field Service Representative Level II to troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission generators on-site or by phone. This role involves up to 50% travel across assigned regions and requires strong mechanical, electrical, and EPSS knowledge.

The technician will read manuals and schematics, perform preventative maintenance, and generate detailed reports within 24 hours of service. A valid driver license and Generac certification are needed to succeed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Valid Driver License is required.
• 4 years servicing and troubleshooting of EPSS.
• Associate degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Generac certification in air-cooled and protector series is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical troubleshooting and repair of generators.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs during off-hours, weekends and holidays as directed.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
• Read and interpret manuals, electrical schematics, literature, and work orders to perform maintenance/repairs.
• Detect faulty operations and report to the service manager in a timely manner.
• Stay current on NFPA and State regulations for EPSS.
• Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
• Communicate findings via phone, email, and in person.
• Conduct equipment commissioning for industrial and MPS products.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Field Service Representative Level II is responsible for providing on-site and phone troubleshooting, repair, equipment modifications, installation, and sales commissioning support of Generac industrial products. This position will require up to 50% travel.

Major Responsibilities

• Perform technical skills including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of generators.


• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators both during normal working hours and after-hours, weekends and holidays as directed.


• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.


• Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs.


• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report them and any other unusual situations to the service manager in a timely manner.


• Stay current on National Fire Protection Association and State regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.


• Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.


• Communicate report findings through but not limited to phone calls, emails and in person communication.


• Conducting equipment commissioning for the industrial and MPS products.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Working knowledge of mechanical design, AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiring schematics, and connection diagrams


• Working knowledge of Engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems.


• Knowledge of power generation; light tower, pumps, and heating products


• Working knowledge of diesel or gaseous engines


• Excellent troubleshooting skills, the ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.


• Working knowledge of transfer switch operations


• Spark Ignited knowledge


• Ability to obtain and maintain Generac certification in the air-cooled and protector series courses


• Ability to work and communicate well with others


• Ability to provide detailed reports within 24 hours


• Ability to manage and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls in a safe and timely manner


• Excellent conflict and resolution skills


• Able to observe, identify and relay critical information to the company, customers, or coworker

This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment, including seasonal variations in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or byproducts. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, and shields for required tasks, and closed-toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies. The employee must be able to work in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, snow, and ice. The employee may be required to obtain a DOT Medical Card and have the ability to drive a heavy-duty truck on a daily basis.
