Job summary

Generac in Corona, CA is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of generators. You will provide emergency and scheduled maintenance, read manuals and schematics, and carry out repairs in the field.

You will report findings to the service manager, stay current on NFPA and state EPSS regulations, and produce detailed reports within 24 hours. A high school diploma and valid driver's license are required, with 4 years EPSS experience;

Qualifications

  • 4 years servicing and troubleshooting of EPSS
  • Knowledge of AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiring schematics
  • Engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems
  • Knowledge of transfer switch operations
  • Ability to obtain Generac certification in air-cooled and protector series courses

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair generators (mechanical and electrical).
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs during and after hours, weekends, holidays as directed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on generators.
  • Read manuals/schematics and work orders to perform maintenance/repairs.
  • Detect faults and report to service manager promptly.

  • Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
  • Communicate findings by phone, email, or in person.
  • Conduct equipment commissioning for industrial and MPS products.

Job description

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform technical skills including but not limited to mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of generators.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators during normal working hours and after‑hours, weekends, and holidays as directed.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report them and any other unusual situations to the service manager in a timely manner.
  • Stay current on National Fire Protection Association and State regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.
  • Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
  • Communicate report findings through phone calls, emails, and in‑person communication.
  • Conduct equipment commissioning for the industrial and MPS products.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver License
  • 4 years servicing and troubleshooting of Emergency Power Supply Systems (EPSS)
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design, AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiring schematics, and connection diagrams.
  • Advanced knowledge of engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of power generation including light tower, pumps, and heating products.
  • Working knowledge of diesel or gaseous engines.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of transfer switch operations.
  • Spark‑ignition knowledge.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Generac certification in the air‑cooled and protector series courses.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with others.
  • Ability to provide detailed reports within 24 hours.
  • Ability to manage and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls in a safe and timely manner.
  • Excellent conflict and resolution skills.
  • Able to observe, identify, and relay critical information to the company, customers, or coworkers.
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 6 years servicing and troubleshooting of Emergency Power Supply Systems (EPSS)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, crouch, bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist‑high, up to 10 feet away. This job’s specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The employee will work in typical manufacturing conditions, including seasonal temperature variations and occasional exposure to fumes or byproducts. The employee must comply with assigned PPE requirements, including safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, shields for required tasks, and closed‑toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies. The employee must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, snow, and ice, and may be required to obtain a DOT Medical Card and drive a heavy‑duty truck on a daily basis.
