Job summary

Penco Electric & Generators in the Greater Chicago area is seeking a Generator Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain residential standby generators and transfer switches. The role emphasizes hands-on work with engines, electrical systems, and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in generator, electrical, HVAC, automotive, mechanical, or related field service.
• Experience working with engines and mechanical equipment.
• Understanding of electrical systems, wiring, controls, and AC/DC fundamentals.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic/troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to use multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Comfort using iPads, mobile applications, and company software to complete job documentation.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills, with the ability to work independently and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, fuel, ignition, charging, and control-system issues.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.

• Use a company-provided iPad and field-service software to document each job, including findings, work performed, and parts or materials used.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency outage service.
