Airgas in Chicago, IL is seeking a Generator Technician to repair, refurbish and maintain engine-driven generators and welding equipment for rental or sale. You will assemble diesel power generators, test functionality and ensure accurate parts documentation.

The role requires a High School Diploma and a valid driver’s license, with preferred knowledge of power generation and PLC controls. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life insurance and a 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Valid Driver License with clean driving record.
  • Preferred: knowledge of power generating and welding equipment.
  • Experience with diesel engines and PLC/generator controllers is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, refurbish, and maintain engine-driven generators and welding equipment.
  • Assemble diesel power generator equipment for rental.
  • Test and calibrate machines for rent or sale.
  • Replace defective parts and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Inspect returned generator equipment for proper operation.
  • Operate forklift or pallet jack to load/unload equipment.
  • Document all repairs and maintenance.
  • Service equipment and customers off-site as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment following Airgas guidelines.

Tests and calibrates machines to see if they are functional for rent or sale.Performs paint touch ups and replaces worn and missing decals to maintain general appearance of welding equipment. on generators, and welders to maintain general appearance.Replaces defective parts and completes preventative maintenance required.Identifies proper parts and their numbers needed for repairs, orders parts as required to complete those repairs through parts or Branch Coordinator.Inspects returned Generator equipment for proper operation and/or damage by the customer.Operates a forklift, pallet jack or other necessary equipment load and upload equipment from vehicles and move equipment around the branch.Ensures a clean and organized work environment at all times.Properly documents all repairs and maintenance.Required to service equipment and customers off-site.Maintains communication with all branch personnel.Maintaining generators, diagnosing and repairing problems, or installing and replacing components or entire systems.Performs related duties as required.________________________Are you a MATCH?RequiredHigh School Diploma required.A Valid Driver License and good driving recordPreferred QualificationsWorking knowledge of power generating and welding equipment, welding application and equipment, combustion engine, electrical equipment are an asset.Diesel engine knowledgePLC engine and generator controllers experience________________________BenefitsWe care about and support our Airgas Families.
