Summary
National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Pittsburgh, PA, market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000kw, including troubleshooting and repair of Automatic Transfer Switches, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting AC and DC circuits, replacing components, warranty work, and start-up/commissioning.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel or gaseous engines, including ignition, injection systems, and valve adjustments.
- Conduct load bank testing to ensure units operate properly and meet code requirements.
- Assist other technicians with large jobs or complex troubleshooting.
Education And Experience
- HS Diploma required; an Associate degree in a related field is preferred.
- Current Generac Power Systems certification is preferred.
- Experience as a US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or similar is preferred.
Skills And Other Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage time and travel efficiently.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; ability to drive long distances and stay overnight as needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF.
- Ability to work from home, maintain company property, and manage inventory.
- Strong customer service skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to attend training courses as required.
- Commitment to safety and quality, with attention to detail.
Work Conditions
- Work may be required in various weather conditions.
- Work near moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs.
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and perform physical tasks as described.
Compensation
- Competitive pay based on experience and certifications, with overtime paid at 1.5x.
- Paid holidays, accrued vacation, sick and personal days.

- Background check and drug screening required.
- Must pass a DOT physical.
- This is a remote position requiring work from home.
