Job summary

NextGenEnergyJobs is seeking an experienced leader in design engineering to guide cross-functional teams in developing components and assemblies using NX, SolidWorks, and Creo. This role requires strong communication, problem solving, and program management skills, with a focus on delivering robust mechanical systems.

The ideal candidate will manage a team of senior professionals, influence area strategy, and ensure projects meet quality and schedule targets while aligning with manufacturing

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in drafting, design engineering, or related manufacturing support function.
• 4+ years in a leadership or team lead capacity, managing projects and mentoring staff.
• 5+ years hands-on experience with 3D CAD/PLM software to develop complex assemblies and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies using 2D/3D models and related data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, and inspection.
• Lead a small to medium team of senior professionals and influence strategy and resource allocation.
• Interpret business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products and processes; stay informed on industry trends.
• Make high-level judgments to solve complex problems across engineering, product management, manufacturing, and technology domains.

Activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions and systems.

Responsibilities

• Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection -typically does not require Engineering degree add non-Engineers language here
• Manages a small to medium team of senior professionals as well as others. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
• Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
• Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
• May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of professional experience in technical drafting, design engineering, or a closely related manufacturing support function.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a leadership or team lead capacity , demonstrating the ability to manage projects, mentor staff, and oversee technical deliverables.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience utilizing industry-standard 3D CAD/PLM software (e.g., NX, SolidWorks, or Creo) to develop complex assemblies and mechanical systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
• Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
• Established project management skills.
