This position is designed for an experienced generator professional who has spent significant time in the field and is ready to transition into an inside technical role where that experience can be used to solve problems, support customers, and develop complete generator solutions.

The position will serve as a second-level technical resource for generator field service, parts, and generator applications, with potential involvement in generator sales support. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of generator field experience and a strong understanding of generator systems, troubleshooting, application requirements, and equipment selection.

Primary Responsibilities
Generator Application & System Design
  • Review project specifications, electrical drawings, load schedules, and customer requirements to determine appropriate generator solutions.
  • Size and select generators based on:
    • Running and connected loads
    • Motor-starting requirements
    • Load steps and transient performance
    • Voltage and electrical configuration
    • Fuel type
    • Altitude and ambient temperature
    • Site and application conditions
  • Design and support complete generator systems incorporating generators, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, controls, paralleling equipment, and related components.
  • Evaluate challenging electrical loads, including VFDs, UPS systems, and other nonlinear loads, and understand their impact on generator sizing and system performance.
Quotation & Sales Support
  • Develop generator equipment quotations based on project requirements and customer needs.
  • Define equipment scope and identify appropriate generator system components.
  • Prepare pricing and identify project-specific exceptions, clarifications, or technical considerations.
  • Clearly explain recommended solutions to customers, sales personnel, and internal teams.
  • Provide technical support for generator and parts sales opportunities.
Field Service & Technical Support
  • Serve as a second-level technical resource for generator field service and customer support.
  • Assist field technicians with troubleshooting complex generator and generator-system issues.
  • Help identify required service parts, replacement components, and appropriate technical solutions.
  • Use practical field experience to help diagnose problems and provide solutions that can be successfully implemented in the field.
  • Support customers and internal teams with generator application, service, and parts questions.
Project & Team Coordination
  • Work closely with sales, engineering, customer experience, service technicians, manufacturers, and customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate technical requirements during equipment selection, quotation, submittals, delivery, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Review application requirements and communicate potential technical concerns before equipment is ordered or installed.
  • Assist in resolving application or equipment issues that arise during project execution.
  • Help bridge communication between customers, field personnel, sales, and engineering.
Qualifications
Required
  • Significant hands-on experience with commercial or industrial generator systems.
  • Strong knowledge of generator operation, troubleshooting, applications, and system components.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, load information, and equipment documentation.
  • Experience sizing and selecting generators for a variety of operating conditions and electrical loads.
  • Working knowledge of automatic transfer switches, generator controls, switchgear, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers, technicians, sales personnel, and other team members.
  • Comfortable working in a customer-facing technical support environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to support multiple projects and customer needs simultaneously.
Preferred
  • 10+ years of generator field service or closely related industry experience.
  • Experience developing generator quotations and equipment scopes.
  • Experience with generator application engineering and system design.
  • Knowledge of motor starting and generator transient load considerations.
  • Experience applying generators to VFD, UPS, and other nonlinear loads.
  • Experience with paralleling generator systems and associated controls or switchgear.
  • Previous experience working directly with generator manufacturers and their application or service teams.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who has spent years working directly with generator equipment and understands what works in the real world. They can look beyond a specification sheet, recognize potential application problems, troubleshoot difficult systems, and translate years of field knowledge into practical solutions for customers and technicians.
