Job summary

National Oilwell Varco, L.P. seeks a Technician Field Service III to support the Williston Portable Power Team. Duties include on-site installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of natural gas and diesel generator sets across the service region.

The role requires traveling extensively, passing MVR checks, and pre-employment testing. A company truck is provided; you supply your own tools to perform hands-on service and maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years experience servicing natural gas and diesel generators.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean MVR; ability to pass background checks.
• Completion of pre-employment testing (drug screen, physical, etc.).
• Proficiency with hand and power tools; candidate must supply own tools.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to read schematics and manuals.
• Excellent communication skills and customer-service orientation.
• Ability to work independently and manage a mobile work schedule.
• Willingness to travel extensively across the service region.
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on natural gas and diesel generators.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures in the field.
• Repair or replace faulty components to restore generator operation.
• Install new generator sets and associated control systems.
• Document service activities, parts used, and time spent in company systems.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to customers and internal teams.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory compliance on all job sites.
• Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively.
• Provide technical support and training to junior field staff as needed.
• Manage travel logistics and ensure timely arrival at service locations.
