We are seeking a reliable and mechanically skilled Field Environmental Technician to provide daily support for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities at our groundwater treatment facilities in Syracuse, New York. This role places strong emphasis on being a second set of hands for the plant electrician, assisting with routine electrical tasks, equipment checks, system monitoring, and safe work practices across the site.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with water treatment equipment, demonstrate strong electrical awareness, and possess the ability to perform in depth mechanical equipment repair and equipment troubleshooting on pumps, motors, plumbing systems, and treatment components. Candidates with a strong work ethic and transferable technical skills will be considered; training is available for motivated individuals.
Effective communication, accurate data collection, and the ability to work well with team members of varying backgrounds are essential. A High School diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license are required.
Responsibilities
Support the plant electrician during electrical maintenance and troubleshooting tasks, serving as an extra set of hands during inspections, repairs, lockout/tagout activities, and equipment testing.
Perform daily Operations and Maintenance (O&M) duties at groundwater treatment plants and associated sites.
Assist with operating and maintaining water treatment equipment, including pumps, valves, piping systems, filtration units, and process instrumentation.
Demonstrate strong electrical awareness when working around energized equipment, control panels, motors, and sensors, ensuring safe work practices at all times.
Conduct in depth mechanical equipment repair, including pump rebuilds, lubrication, component replacement, lancing of conveyance lines, and mechanical cleaning.
Apply strong equipment troubleshooting skills to identify operational issues involving both mechanical and electrical components.
Perform routine site inspections, verify proper system operations, and document conditions and field data.
Communicate system deficiencies, repair needs, and recommended solutions with team members and field supervisors.
Utilize or learn PLC and SCADA system interfaces; prior experience is helpful but not required.
Support additional field tasks as needed, including construction equipment operation, building and grounds maintenance, assist sampling crews on an as needed basis, and general facility support.
HAZWOPER and Confined Space Entry training are preferred but not required.
