Job summary

Centra Health is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to join the General Surgery team across Bedford Memorial Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital. You will manage new and established visits, round in the hospital, and support surgical patients throughout their continuum of care.

You will work closely with physicians, supported by nursing staff, in a warm, family-friendly community. The role includes rotating weekend coverage, OR assist opportunities, and a comprehensive

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Master’s in Science Nursing (MSN).
• Current licensure by the Virginia State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority; BLS and ACLS certifications. National certification in field of specialization.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate daily with APPs, surgeons, and other specialties.
• Work with Cerner EMR for documentation.
• Rotate weekend/holiday coverage with flexible day shifts.
• Assist in operating room as needed.
• Evaluate post-op and clinic patients; manage inpatient care.

Join our collaborative General Surgery team at Centra Health, serving patients across Bedford Memorial Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) play a vital role in patient care—managing both new and established visits, rounding in the hospital, and supporting surgical patients throughout their continuum of care.

APPs work closely with physicians and are supported by dedicated nursing staff, fostering efficiency, continuity of care, and strong patient relationships. Responsibilities

• Collaborate daily with a core team of APPs, surgeons, and other specialties
• Work with Cerner EMR for seamless documentation
• Enjoy variable day shifts with rotating weekend/holiday coverage
• Have the opportunity to assist in operating room
• Evaluate patients in clinic for post-op and acute visits
• Round, consult, discharge, and manage inpatient care
• Order and interpret diagnostic evaluations and therapies
• Coordinate care with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team
• Equal call rotation with the general surgery APP team each call rotation is 5 days
• Call coverage is shared among APPs in both Lynchburg and Bedford, providing team-based flexibility.
• Flexible schedules with the option of 4x10s available.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program, and Masters of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN)
• Current licensure by the Virginia State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority. Maintains BLS and ACLS Certifications. Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse. Nationally recognized certification in field of specialization
