Job summary

Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a General Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support a general and bariatric surgery practice. You will work with Dr. Cody Ness to extend surgical care, with a mix of inpatient rounding, clinic work, and operative time.

The role emphasizes preoperative assessment, intraoperative support, postoperative management, patient education, and coordination of follow-up care to optimize outcomes. On-call duties are included.

Qualifications

• Master's or higher in a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited institution.
• Current state NP licensure and national board certification required.
• DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments related to general and bariatric surgery.
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests for surgical patients.
• Collaborate with surgeons and teams to develop individualized care plans.
• Provide preoperative evaluations and patient education on risks and expectations.
• Manage postoperative care, pain control, wound care, and follow-up.
• Assist in surgical procedures under surgeon supervision as needed.
• Prescribe medications per state laws and institutional policy.
• Document care accurately in medical records and maintain vitals.
• Participate in quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
• Stay current with advances in general surgery and practice standards.
• Provide on-call coverage outside regular hours.
