Job summary

Barton Malow Builders is seeking a General Superintendent in Southfield, MI to manage day-to-day on-site construction activities for large-scale Thermal Energy projects. You will lead field teams, enforce safety and project procedures, and coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Candidate should have 15+ years of experience in thermal energy construction, proven leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, and ability to travel for project assignments.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15+ years of experience in large-scale Thermal Energy market construction.
• Experience leading multiple successful teams and maintaining relationships with trade partners, clients, and others.
• Ability to adapt to new processes and methods in changing environments.
• Experience managing H-Class or large class thermal turbine builds.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day on-site administrative and construction processes for all field activities.
• Lead field leadership meetings including safety, trade coordination, and schedule meetings.
• Enforce compliance with project procedures, safety programs, work rules, and client requirements.
• Develop and foster effective client and subcontractor relationships.
• Interface with client representatives and other contractors as necessary.
• Collaborate with project management to implement Execution Plans and ensure adherence to company standards.
• Ensure contractual compliance with contracted and subcontracted parties on site.
• Provide technical assistance and interpretation of drawings; recommend construction methods.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to document build progress.
• Review internal Superintendent and Subcontractor field reports.
• Coordinate turnover to clients or startup teams and finalize construction documentation.

Job description

The General Superintendent is responsible for the day‑to‑day on‑site administrative and construction processes for all field‑related activities, ensuring contractual completion of the various project discipline‑specific superintendents to include MEP scopes, civil, controls, and construction.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for overall project safety management and compliance with the applicable Safety and Health Plans, which includes reviewing and auditing site‑specific safety documentation.
• Lead and oversee field leadership meetings, including safety, trade coordination, and schedule meetings.
• Enforce compliance with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules and specific project/client requirements.
• Develop and foster effective client and subcontractor relationships.
• Interface with client representatives, municipal authorities and other contractors on the team as necessary.
• Communicate and interface with internal Barton Malow Design Management team, Preconstruction and external Engineering to resolve field engineering items.
• Collaborate with the project management team to implement Execution Plans, project procedures, documentation and adherence to company standards.
• Responsible for ensuring contractual compliance with contracted and subcontracted parties on site construction related activities.
• Provide technical assistance, interpretation of drawings, and recommendation of best construction methods.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports as necessary to document build progress.
• Review internal Superintendent and Subcontractor field reports.
• Partner with Internal Commissioning and oversee and direct the final construction documentation turnover process to clients; this includes turnover to clients or internal startup teams.
• Enforce compliance with project Quality Management processes.
• Partner with Trade Directors on craft supervision and project staffing as necessary.

Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• Minimum of 15 plus years of experience including large‑scale Thermal Energy market construction.
• Experience leading multiple successful teams, including development of direct reports and maintaining relationships with trade partners, clients, and other parties.
• The ability to manage and embrace change; respond and adapt to new processes and new ways of looking at old problems.
• Understanding of thermal ground‑up construction.
• Must have experience managing H‑Class or large class thermal turbine builds.
• Ability to travel; project assignments will include company financial support.
