Job summary

CVG seeks a General Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial projects in California. You will direct onsite teams, manage budgets, safety, and schedules from start to finish.

The role requires 10+ years of leadership, OSHA 30, strong drawing interpretation, and coordination with HR, safety, and executives. On-site, full-time with comprehensive benefits and a company vehicle.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Superintendent or in a progressively responsible commercial construction leadership role.
  • Experience with tenant improvements, ground-up, building renovations, life science, and similar project types.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and commercial construction safety practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop large field teams, including multiple Superintendents and project site personnel.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction practices, project layout, and interpretation of civil, structural, and architectural drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of Building Management Systems: security, fire systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and data systems.
  • Current OSHA 30 certification required.

Job description

TITLE: General Superintendent (exempt / non-union / full time / on-site)

Reports to: COO

Position Summary: The General Superintendent serves as the company's senior field leader, providing direction, support, and oversight of field operations from project start-up through project completion. This role is responsible for minimizing organizational risk by ensuring company policies, procedures, safety standards, and project execution requirements are consistently followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

  • Provide companywide field leadership, operational oversight, risk management, and workforce development beyond the scope of the Senior Superintendent role.
  • Manage day-to-day field construction operations and regularly visit jobsites to provide leadership, support, and oversight to field teams.
  • Chair monthly field team meetings.
  • Oversee the Warehouse to ensure labor, material, tool, equipment, and supply needs are met and maintained in safe working condition.
  • Attend and contribute to preconstruction team, weekly OAC, Bi-Weekly project management, and leadership meetings.
  • Participate in job walks and review plans, specifications, and contracts with Superintendents to ensure a thorough understanding of project scope.
  • Review and monitor construction costs, labor budgets, and productivity metrics to support project and company objectives.
  • Lead field teams and oversee subcontractor performance to support project quality, schedule, safety, and productivity objectives.
  • Verify and maintain records and certifications.
Leadership
  • Set expectations, delegate responsibilities, empower team members to work independently, and promote accountability.
  • Manage, mentor, coach, and develop field personnel, including Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Carpenters, Laborers, Warehouse staff, and Interns, ensuring performance expectations are clearly communicated and achieved.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and presentation skills when addressing field issues, communicating priorities, and supporting team alignment.
Business Partnership
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, trade partners, clients, consultants, inspectors, and other project stakeholders through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Partner with the HR Director to ensure employees receive timely and effective performance feedback and communicate field staffing needs.Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of field personnel.
  • Partner with the safety team to promote a culture of safety, ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, conduct inspections, resolve jobsite safety concerns, and participate in accident investigations and OSHA-related matters as needed.
  • Partner with Executive Leadership to ensure understanding of the overall business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Superintendent or in a progressively responsible commercial construction leadership role.
  • Experience with a variety of commercial construction projects, including tenant improvements, ground-up, building renovations, life science, and similar project types.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and commercial construction safety practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop large field teams, including multiple Superintendents and project site personnel.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction practices, project layout, and interpretation of civil, structural, and architectural drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of Building Management Systems: security, fire systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and data systems.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple concurrent projects, including scheduling, manpower planning, resource allocation, and production analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and other construction management software.
  • Current OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) – must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail and accuracy; excellent follow-through skills.
  • Maintains a professional environment, demonstrates ethical behavior, and uses good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain adaptable, flexible, and resilient while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Must comply with the provisions of our Auto/Fleet Safety program with a current valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily based on active construction jobsites.

  • Standing & Walking: Long hours on-site may require extended periods of standing and walking, often on uneven terrain or in active construction zones.
  • Bending, Stooping & Kneeling: Regular bending, crouching, and kneeling may be necessary when inspecting work, reviewing plans, or assisting on-site.
  • Carrying & Lifting: Must occasionally lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment, typically up to 50 lbs.
  • Sitting: Long periods of sitting in an office or job-site trailer while handling paperwork, making phone calls, working on computer.
  • Climbing & Accessing Elevated Areas: Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to inspect work at heights.
  • Manual Dexterity & Equipment Operation: Ability to write, type, operate vehicles, tools, and construction equipment; assemble materials; use measuring devices; and perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination.
  • Vision & Hearing: Ability to read plans and specifications, conduct inspections, identify potential hazards, communicate effectively in noisy environments, and respond to alarms, signals, and verbal instructions.
  • Driving: Frequent travel to and from project locations, requiring prolonged sitting and sustained alertness while driving.
  • Emergency Response & Physical Readiness – Being able to respond quickly to site emergencies, alarms, equipment signals, verbal instructions, accidents, or urgent issues.
  • Exposure to Construction Environment – Working around loud noise, dust, heavy machinery, and varying weather conditions.
  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Required if on jobsite (hard hat, reflective vests, protective eyeglasses, closed-toed shoes, etc.).

This position has an annual salary range of $180,000 - $225,000. The actual salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience. Salary ranges are subject to change and may be adjusted in the future.
