TITLE: Superintendent (exempt / non-union / full-time / on-site)

Reports to: General Superintendent

Position Summary: The Superintendent is a key field leadership role that is essential to the success and safe execution of construction projects. This position is responsible for overseeing daily jobsite operations, managing and scheduling field personnel, and coordinating construction activities to ensure efficient project delivery.

The Superintendent ensures compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality and workmanship. This role is also responsible for driving field team performance, fostering a culture of accountability, and promoting effective communication among project stakeholders.

Working closely with the Project manager, the Superintendent helps ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with CVG’s quality standards and client expectation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):
Project Execution & Operations
  • Participate in preconstruction activities, job walks, and project planning meetings.
  • Review and maintain a thorough understanding of project plans, specifications, contracts, permits, and scope requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop, implement, and manage jobsite logistics plans to support efficient project operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee daily construction activities to ensure work progresses safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
  • Develop, maintain, and update the project Master Schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Generate and distribute weekly look-ahead schedules to subcontractors and project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material needs with project teams and the Warehouse Manager.
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to review upcoming work, schedule impacts, safety requirements, and project expectations.
  • Attend and actively participate in Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings and other project-related meetings.
  • Maintain detailed daily reports, photographs, project documentation, and progress updates in our project software.
  • Identify and proactively resolve constructability issues, field conflicts, and scheduling challenges.
  • Prepare and communicate work order and field change order information to the Project Management team.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable building codes, permit requirements, and inspection processes.
Safety & Quality Management
  • Establish, implement, and maintain site-specific safety plans in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections and daily walkthroughs to promote a safe work environment and identify potential risks.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company safety programs, and public safety requirements.
  • Lead by example in fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and hazard awareness.
  • Monitor and enforce quality standards to ensure all work is completed in accordance with project specifications and company expectations.
  • Inspect subcontractor work for quality, accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Review subcontractor shop drawings, submittals, and field installations for consistency with project plans and specifications.
Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and directions to Assistant Superintendents, Carpenters, Laborers, and Interns.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, delegate responsibilities, and promote accountability among field team members.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop field personnel to support professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and solution-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrate strong decision-making, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced construction environment.
Business Partnership
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with owners, architects, consultants, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to support project goals, budgeting initiatives, schedule milestones, and client satisfaction.
  • Partner with General Superintendent regarding manpower planning, resource allocation, and field operation’s needs.
  • Partner with the HR Director to support employee development, performance management, and workforce feedback initiatives.
  • Support company safety initiatives and participate in incident investigations and corrective action efforts as needed.
  • Maintain an understanding of CVG’s business objectives and ensure field operations align with company goals and client expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction.
  • Experience managing a variety of commercial construction projects, including tenant improvements, ground-up construction, building renovations, life science, and similar type projects.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading large projects or multiple smaller projects simultaneously.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, scheduling, and project execution.
  • Extensive knowledge of Building Management Systems, including security, fire alarm, mechanical, electrical, and data systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and other construction management software.
  • Current OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) – must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy; excellent follow-through skills.
  • Maintains a professional environment, demonstrates ethical behavior, and uses good judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain adaptable, flexible, and resilient while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be active on the jobsite to interact with subcontractors and validate work in progress. Able to work nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Must comply with the provisions of our Auto/Fleet Safety program with a current valid Driver’s License, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily based on active construction jobsites.

  • Standing & Walking: Long hours on-site may require extended periods of standing and walking, often on uneven terrain or in active construction zones.
  • Bending, Stooping & Kneeling: Regular bending, crouching, and kneeling may be necessary when inspecting work, reviewing plans, or assisting on-site.
  • Carrying & Lifting: Must occasionally lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment, typically up to 50 lbs.
  • Sitting:
  • Climbing & Accessing Elevated Areas: Requires climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to inspect work at various heights.
  • Manual Dexterity & Equipment Operation: Ability to write, type, operate vehicles, tools, and construction equipment; assemble materials; use measuring devices; and perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination.
  • Vision & Hearing: Ability to read plans and specifications, conduct inspections, identify potential hazards, communicate effectively in noisy environments, and respond to alarms, signals, and verbal instructions.
  • Driving: Frequent travel to and from project locations, requiring prolonged sitting and sustained alertness while driving.
  • Emergency Response & Physical Readiness: Being able to respond quickly to site emergencies, alarms, equipment signals, verbal instructions, accidents, or urgent issues.
  • Exposure to Construction Environment: Working around loud noise, dust, heavy machinery, and varying weather conditions.
  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Requiredif on jobsite (hard hat, reflective vests, protective eyeglasses, closed-toed shoes, etc.).

This position has an annual salary range of $95,000 - $150,000k. The actual salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience. The range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
