Job summary

Valmont Industries in Houston, TX is seeking a General Shop Help in the Coatings Division to prepare products for galvanizing by hanging angles on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and prepping small parts for galvanizing.

You will inspect fixtures, hand-wire parts, and help move steel and operate basic tools while maintaining safety and efficiency in a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
• Ability to communicate problems to departmental supervision.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to shoulder height or higher.
• Must be able to stand for long periods in an open air environment; wear PPE; maintain safety.
• Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.
• Must be a person of passion and integrity with drive to excel and deliver results.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and ensure the safe use of production fixtures, chains and hooks.
• Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing.
• Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking.
• Move lightweight pieces of steel by hand in the plant and yard.
• Perform paddling to enhance quality of galvanized products using air guns.
• Use air or electric powered tools to prepare or clean steel for pickling or galvanizing.
• Assist in general plant cleanup and housekeeping.
• Work safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury.
