Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a General Shop Help in Houston, TX to prepare products for galvanizing, hang angle on spreader bars, stage tubular products and prepare small parts. The role requires reading instructions, following safety procedures, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

On-site shifts span 1st and 2nd with a $15.00/hr base and $1.50/hr shift differential for 2nd shift. Responsibilities include wiring small parts to racks, moving steel pieces, and supporting paddling and cleaning

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Six months of previous galvanizing experience.
• Six months of experience with hand tools and gauges (impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, taps, oxy/acetylene torches, and mill gauges).
• Six months of experience operating a bridge crane.
• Ability to communicate with coworkers in a positive manner.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and ensure the safe use and disposition of production fixtures, chains and hooks.
• Hand wire small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing.
• Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking.
• Move lightweight pieces of steel by hand within plant and yard.
• Paddle to enhance quality of galvanized products using air tools.
• Assist in general plant clean up and maintain a safe work environment.
