General Services Manager – Facilities Unit
Base pay range: $68,214.00/yr - $73,561.00/yr.
Only permanent employees in the civil service title, comparable title (under 6.1.9), eligible for the 55a program, and those that are reachable in the civil service list are eligible to apply.
This position may be eligible for remote work for up to 2 days per week or a compressed schedule pursuant to the Flexible Work Pilot Program.
The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) protects and enhances the daily economic lives of New Yorkers by licensing more than 45,000 businesses in over 40 industries and enforcing key consumer protection, licensing, and workplace laws. DCWP licenses businesses, resolves complaints, and supports consumer and workforce empowerment through education, outreach, research, and advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Assess the need for and provide Division management with a detailed plan for addressing necessary upgrades, repairs, and maintenance for all DCWP-occupied locations, including quotes, timelines, and cost estimates.
- Conduct daily on-site inspections of contracted building cleaning services.
- Make light/moderate repairs as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain supplies of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and alarm systems.
- Work with building services/vendors on upgrades and repairs to building systems/property (e.g., HVAC, garbage collection/removal, painting, snow removal, extermination services, landscaping).
- Move desktops, phones, files, and other equipment necessary for cubicle relocations.
- Handle the process for decommissioning surplus and end‑of‑life equipment, furniture, and other items no longer used by DCWP, acting as primary point of contact with DCAS.
- Monitor and maintain warehouse inventory reports.
- Coordinate the transportation of items to and from the warehouse.
- Organize supply rooms and maintain inventory reports.
- Accept and record deliveries of supplies and equipment.
- Distribute supplies and work with DCWP divisions to ensure they are stocked as needed.
- Perform other ad hoc assignments, as necessary and requested by division management, including acting as backup support for the other functional units.
Minimum Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus five years of full‑time paid experience requiring general knowledge of construction and construction costs, electronic data processing equipment, telephone communications systems, building standards, and leasing procedures, with at least two years of supervisory experience; OR
- High school graduation or equivalent (e.g., GED) with a score of at least 35 on each of the five tests and an overall score of at least 225, plus nine years of full‑time paid experience as described above, with at least two years of supervisory experience; OR
- A satisfactory equivalent qualification, provided the candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of supervisory experience.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
