General Production Worker – Crate Builder (2nd Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on building custom crates and boxes from prints and drawings, using hand and power tools to cut materials to size and assemble finished packaging. You will support the shipping process by preparing completed crates for shipment and coordinating with the materials team to stage and send products out. This position offers the opportunity to learn a trade in a clean, manufacturing environment and grow long term with a team‑oriented organization.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret prints and drawings to understand crate and box specifications, dimensions, and material requirements.
• Measure and cut wood and other materials to required lengths using hand tools and power tools such as a skillsaw.
• Assemble crates and boxes using appropriate fasteners and an impact driver, ensuring sturdy and accurate construction.
• Inspect materials and completed crates for quality, accuracy, and structural integrity before shipment.
• Prepare finished crates and packages for shipping, including labeling, organizing, and staging them for outbound delivery.
• Work closely with the materials and shipping/receiving teams to ensure products are properly staged and sent out on time.
• Use basic warehouse and general production practices to support manufacturing, loading, unloading, and inventory‑related tasks as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools, equipment, and required personal protective equipment such as steel‑toe boots.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the manufacturing and production floor.
• Participate in cross‑training opportunities in related areas of the facility to support overall workflow.
• Train initially on 1st shift for approximately four weeks, then transition to 2nd shift and maintain reliable attendance.
• Work 2nd shift hours of 4:30 PM to 3:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, with optional Friday work depending on team needs and workload.

Essential Skills

• Experience using hand tools and power tools, including a skillsaw for cutting wood and an impact driver for assembling crates.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings to build crates and boxes to specification.
• General production, warehouse, or manufacturing experience in a hands‑on role.
• Comfort working with mechanical tasks and basic assembly processes.
• Ability to perform general labor duties such as loading, unloading, and basic inventory‑related tasks.
• Attention to detail for accurate measurement, cutting, assembly, and inspection.
• Ability to use a tape measure accurately and consistently.
• Capability to perform physical work, including standing for extended periods and handling materials.
• Steel‑toe boots, required for safety on the production floor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in manufacturing, general production, or general labor roles.
• Experience with assembly work and using a variety of hand tools and power tools in a production environment.
• Experience in inspection of finished goods or components for quality.
• Familiarity with warehouse operations, including loading, unloading, and inventory support.
• Hilo or material handling experience (preferred).
• Interest in learning a skilled trade and building a long‑term career in manufacturing.
• Ability to work effectively in a laid‑back, family‑oriented culture while maintaining productivity.
• Willingness to cross‑train in other areas of the operation as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clean manufacturing facility that specializes in the production and assembly of equipment for pathology, histology, necropsy, and morgue applications. The operation runs multiple departments under one roof, including Engineering, Machining, Welding, Metal Finishing, and Shipping/Receiving, and manages work in process from raw materials through to finished products. You will initially train on 1st shift for about four weeks and then move to 2nd shift, working 4:30 PM to 3:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, with optional Friday work depending on team preferences and workload. The culture is laid back and family oriented, with an emphasis on cross‑training and collaboration among a workforce of approximately 84 employees. The environment involves general production and warehouse activities such as assembly, loading, unloading, and inspection, using hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical equipment. The dress code is practical working attire suitable for a manufacturing floor, with steel‑toe boots required for safety. Protective gear such as gloves and other appropriate equipment is used as needed for specific tasks. The facility is organized into multiple areas for work in process, allowing you to see the full flow of materials and products from start to finish.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
