Job summary

Meijer is seeking a General Merchandise Dept Manager for our Commerce, MI store to lead a team and drive engagement, coaching, and performance management while shaping store operations and customer experience.

You will oversee staffing, scheduling, and budget performance, implement process improvements, ensure safety and compliance, and grow Meijer’s culture through leadership development and succession planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years in retail/grocery or customer service.
• Progressive leadership experience preferred.
• A passion to provide industry leading service.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members with clear direction.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information to inform decisions.
• Demonstrates commitment to working safely at all times.
• Understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising for customer needs and market share.
• Strong business acumen and innovative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Engages with team members to ensure onboarding, training and development, and coaching.
• Identifies talent and engages in career discussions to support staffing and leadership pipelines.
• Holds candid discussions to uphold Meijer standards and growth opportunities.
• Oversees area operations and financial results, managing budgets and P&L items.
• Drives safety, compliance, and overall store condition management.
• Guides Team Leaders and Leads, assigns daily work and training needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
