General Mechanic - (T219279)

Description

The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

General Mechanic Responsibilities:

  1. Reads, understands and interprets blueprints, drawings, floor plans, schedules, and manufacturers’ operating and/or maintenance specifications as related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes.
  2. Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance including operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, and reporting problems on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures and furnishings.
  3. Assists other maintenance personnel in the completion of their work tasks including but not limited to electricians, HVAC mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, masons, painters, and sheet metal workers.
  4. Responds to emergency as well as routine requests for service from building occupants.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Proven ability to perform General Mechanic job duties.
  2. Attention to detail.
  3. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  4. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  6. Ability to follow and complete work orders and preventative maintenance duties, and provide updates on the work order status.
  7. Ability to work alone efficiently, productively, and with minimal supervision.
  8. Ability to maintain a clean work site that minimally interferes with the University’s operations.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
  2. Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.
  3. Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
  4. Working in confined spaces.
  5. Working within extreme temperature ranges.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm (Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, subject to change to meet the needs of the University and department).

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience.
  • Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive a vehicle in performance of University business.
